Olfactory: Activities all ages
The following strategies are suitable for most students, particularly those with sensory difficulties. Each strategy can be adapted to complement the students’ curriculum and individualised education plan.
Specific Activities:
Set up a Smelling Station:
- Use containers filled with different cotton balls containing essential oils, spices, smelly objects e.g. cheese and rubber bands. These could be used as part of a story or science experiment?
Learning:
- Use food, cooking and science lessons to stimulate the olfactory senses
- Be mindful of students who are sensitive to smells and odours during food, cooking and science lessons
Entrepreneurship:
- Making scented soaps and candles
